Wellie was a small, abandoned kitten when he was brought to VOKRA, a Vancouver rescue for orphaned kittens. His fur was severely matted, he was malnourished, and someone had removed his front claws before throwing him outside.
That Wellie had managed to survive on his own was a miracle—but now he was in desperate need of saving.
Wellie's life turned around when a woman named Vica saw him on VOKRA's website. Before the shelter was even able to add a description to go with Wellie's picture, Vica was on her way over to VOKRA to adopt him.
It was love at first sight!
Despite all the hardships he'd faced, Wellie—short for Lord Wellington—proved to be a playful and affectionate kitten, full of love for his new human mom.
And, while he was healing in his new forever home, he helped his human mom heal, too.
Vica was recovering herself from a bad neck injury she'd suffered the year before. But, once Wellie came into her life, the rate of Vica's healing quickly accelerated, surprising her doctors.
As Vica tells HiHomer, "My stress from the injury was starting to decrease and I felt my neck was feeling better and better every day. It's hard not to smile when you see an adorable mini lion strut around your house."
They say that love is the best medicine—and Vica and Wellie are the living proof. Today, the inspurrational duo share their adventures and advocate for rescue kitties on Wellie's Facebook page.
It's like we at HiHomer.com are always saying: When you help animals, you help people, too!
